Tobacco farmers in the country have been urged to use Mtetezi policy cover to insure their crop against physical risks associated with tobacco farming.

NICO General, Assistant General Manager for the central and northern regions, Master Mbale, made the call during a stakeholders’ workshop the company organized for tobacco farmers last week.

Mbale said among other things, the Mtetezi policy cover insures the tobacco against occurrences like hailstorms while in the field to the time it is taken to the auction floors.

“The policy covers the crop from the time it is transplanted in the field to the time it is harvested. Already, there is overwhelming response from farmers in the northern region,” said Mbale.

He said by using the policy, tobacco farmers will be insuring their crop against losses.

“The company attaches great importance to the crop because of its economic value to the country.

One of the participants to the workshop, Yotamu Nyoni, hailed the organisers for the workshop saying since are technical such events afford them an opprtunity to understand insurance products better.
