National team golfer Kondwani Mphulla shone like a beacon when he won this year‘s NICO General golf tournament held at Kasasa Golf Club in Nkhotakota over the weekend.

He defeated a pool of 85 golfers to claim one of the most prestigious golf competitions inthe country.

The victory was his second successive at the course after winning the Kasasa Golf Openchampionship last week.

Mphulla grossed 41 points.

Colonel Chikunkha Soko came second after collecting 37 points, whereas Semu Chaula finished third with 35 points. Mike Kalulu counted out 3. Yadaf to finish fourth.

Cosmas Mwenewawo won the longest drive on hole number five, whereas Ashtosh Godambe claimed the nearest-to-pin on hole number 11.

In his victory speech, Mphulla thanked NICO General for organising the golf tournament at Kasasa for four years now.

“I enjoyed playing on the golf course and it was a wonderful tournament,” Mphulla said.

Mphulla’s performance also excited Malawi national golf Team Manager, Charles Menick.

In the ladies’ category, Sandra Komakech continued her impressive rec‘ord when she wonher fourth title this year after counting out Jochebed Mpanga on 35 points.

Ruth Mvula and Maina Mkandawire won the nearest-to-pin and longest drive respectively.

All the winners received fabulous prizes, courtesy of NICO General.

Speaking during the prize, presentation, NICO General Chief Executive Officer, Eric Chapola said the competition received an overwhelming response.

“Every year we interact with lllovo Customers in Dwangwa and Nchalo to appreciate the support they give us. The competition continues to grow each year and we are impressed with the turn up,” he said.
